Tomorrow, Saturday, January 11th at 11:30 AM, New York State Attorney General Letitia James will announce a new initiative led by her office, called the “Protect Our Homes” initiative, which will kick off a day of action.
The event will start at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza Lower Level 1368 Fulton Street Brooklyn, starting at 11:30 AM. A number of New York elected officials will also be present.
Following the announcement, AG James and volunteers will go door-to-door in at-risk neighborhoods to raise awareness about deed theft in New York.
Deed theft has become a common tool of career criminals and unscrupulous real estate developers to illegally obtain real estate so they can sell it at a huge profit in high-demand housing markets like Brooklyn.
Other New York officials who will be present include:
New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Congresswoman Yvette, Clark Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Senator Velmanette Montgomery, Senator Zellnor Myrie, Assemblywoman Diana Richardson, Council Member Alicka Ampry-Samuel, Council Member Robert Conergy, Council Member Helen Rosenthal, Council Member Justin Brannan, District Leader Henry Butler, District Leader Annette Robinson.
Organizations and advocacy groups that will be present include:
AARP, Homeowners Protection Program, Brooklyn Legal Services Center for New York City Neighborhoods, The Legal Aid Society of New York, New York Legal Assistance Group, NHS Brooklyn, CAMBA, Inc., Brooklyn Bar Association, Volunteer Lawyers Project, Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Bridge Street Development Corporation, Cypress Hills LDC, and IMPACCT Brooklyn.
